Question: Does the Shari’ah impose on a Muslim that he cannot claim to be a Muslim? Is it permissible to hold a belief contrary to the tenets of Islam?

Answer: It is not necessary that all people everywhere should declare that I am a Muslim without any need and without any reason. However, if necessary, the announcement is urgent. It is obligatory to keep one’s Islam and faith in one’s heart at all times. It is never permissible to hold any creed contrary to the creed of Islam and to do any work of signs and symbols of disbelief. Because, it destroys faith.
